IDCO launched a project of embroidery and
handcrafts within the events of al-Quds Capital of Arab
Culture 2009 .
Palestinian embroidery and handcrafts are an
integral part of the Palestinian geographical and cultural
landscape. Historically it has been possible to identify
the specific region in Palestine where the embroidery was
made, and the status of the person owning or wearing the
embroidery, based on the color combinations of the thread
and the design and color of the cloth , this art considered
very important component in Palestinian women life, only the
Palestinian woman can maintain our identity as she is the
one in our society can transfer this tradition to the next
generations.
In the past, the information of a particular village is
expressed by women from where they belong to through
embroidered products.
The project is designed
to assist the young Gazan women to maintain and promote the
traditional society culture as well as with income.
The training of 100 young women from the Gaza city and
nearest villages on the embroidery industry and educating
them more and more on their own culture will support the
national efforts towards keeping the cultural identity of
the society and help in preserving this industry to be
available from one generation to another , the training will
be transferred from mothers to daughters .
On the other side , the project give more interesting to
create and optimizing an income for the trainees by training
women to manage their own products and market it locally and
regionally to be able to assist their families and to take
a leader role in the society .
Moreover, about 300 Citizens expected to be guided and
educated on various cultural issues such as preserving their
history and traditions identity.
